Season
   
Flowering & fruiting season indicators are approximate and are relevant to Western Maharashtra in India. The seasons may differ depending upon climatic conditions of different regions. Also, note that when the season is indicated as winter & summer, it means that flowering / fruiting occurs for some period between these seasons.
   
   

This symbol indicates that the plant is meant as a foliage plant. Flowers may be insignificant or inconspicuous. This is not the indication of an evergreen plant.

Summer = March, April, May, June
Monsoon = July, August, September, October
Winter = November, December, January, February

 
Water
   
These symbols indicate approximate need of water for a particular plant. Due to climatic changes in different regions or in the same region but in different seasons or due to differences in soil structure, water requirements will vary from what is indicated.
 
Sun
   
These symbols indicate sunlight need of a particular plant for its healthy growth. Some plants from humid regions, which flourish in full sunlight, will need semi shade locations in drier regions. Full sun = need direct sunlight daily for 6 to 8 hours. Semi shade = need partial sunlight; i.e. tender sunlight in the morning or in the evening. Diffused light = under shade-net or in bright light near windowsills or in balconies.
 
Tree
   
These symbols show natural shape of a particular tree. The shapes depicted are rough indications. Due to climatic & regional changes, actual shape may differ from what is indicated.
   
'D' and 'EG' mentioned against tree shapes denote 'Deciduous' (Leaf Shedding) and 'Evergreen' respectively.
 
Succulent
   
This symbol indicates that the plant has succulent properties & has insignificant or inconspicuous leaves / flowers.
 
Palm
   
These symbols indicate the growth pattern of palms or plants similar to palms. Clustering = A single plant that forms a cluster as it grows, I.e. Lady palm or Traveler's palm. Single stem = The plant remains single stemmed, I.e. Coconut palm.
 
Aquatic
   
This symbol indicates that it is an aquatic or marsh growing plant. The aquatic plants may be submerged, anchored to soil base under the water or may be free-floating.
 
Bird
   
Birds are attracted to these trees for either food, nectar or for shelter.
 
Butterfly
   
Butterflies are attracted to these plants either for nectar or as food plants for their caterpillars.
